Aim: To implement the HPV genotyping method of fresh head and neck cancer samples in our laboratory. More than half of the patients recognized being chronic alcohol and tobacco users.
Material and method: Sixty patients were included in our study. All of the patient underwent colposcopy-guided biopsy to asses the grade of CIN. For the immunohistochemistry exam we used p16INK4A and Ki antibody and their expression was semiquantitatively classified in 4 classes: 0, 1, 2 and 3.
Human papillomavirus p16 expression genotyping method was validated according to kit instructions. To get a general idea on the prevalence of HPV genotypes in head and neck cancer in our region we tested human papillomavirus p16 expression very small number of samples. The method used for the detection of HPV was real time polymerase chain reaction. The evolution was favorable after surgical removal of the tumor and the patient was explained that long-term follow-up is essential to avoid recurrence.
